The refurbishment process of the hotel took four years to complete is almost towards its end.

The hotel hopes to set a benchmark in the hotel scene of Bangladesh, attracting both national and international guests. Located in the heart of the city, InterContinental Dhaka is easily accessible from all key city landmarks.

The InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is renowned worldwide for its excellence in work.

The company masters in the creation of intrinsic hotels around the world.  Each hotel offers its own distinctive style, from heritage elegance to urban chic and resorts on tropical shores, making it an ideal brand for travellers with discerning tastes.

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), one of the world’s leading hotel companies, has the commencement of commercial operations of InterContinental Dhaka in partnership with state-run Bangladesh Services Limited (BSL).  After the makeover of the former Ruposhi Bangla Hotel, it started as InterContinental Dhaka, when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated it.

The Architectural Design of the hotel was done by LW Design Group LLC, based in Dubai with Damian Talbot as the project manager.

As for the Interior Design, an Australian design firm named Chada (CHA) Pvt. Ltd was commissioned to refurbish the hotel. Chada is recognized as one of the world’s leading interior design studios, with more than three decades of experience and 110 successful projects to its name.

Its core specialism is high-end hospitality design, but the practice also works in the residential, corporate and aged care arenas. The highly-awarded team bring a depth of experience and knowledge to projects and a creative flair that makes every interior experience unique. Over three decades, Chada has become the number one interior architecture practice specializing in the hotel and leisure industries in Australia and the Pacific Rim.

The design team was dealing with important historical bones and so it was important to recapture the glamour and elegance that had disappeared long ago.

The project presented a few challenges for the interior designers because of its architectural complexity and the timelines set by the owners.

Chada took over the lead design role among the line-up of international consultants for the complete renovation and refurbishment of the classic Sixty’s hotel.

The original plans were studied and the design team decided to return the hotel’s porte-cochere and entrance to its original 1960’s location alongside the main guestroom wing and to convert the previously extended new lobby into a food and beverage precinct.

The design direction chosen is a mix of European grand luxury, entwined with a tapestry of colour and texture that is symbolic of the Bangladeshi culture.
