Stitched Reflections

Bengal Arts Programme presents Unraveling Silence, an evocative exhibition by Yasmin Jahan Nupur, curated by Tanzim Wahab, at Bengal Shilpalay. The works transform the everyday into a space of reflection, where textiles and installation meet memory, history, and human intimacy.

Nupur’s soft sculptures and multi-sensory environments draw deeply from the rhythms of Jamdani, the iconic handwoven muslin of Bangladesh. Threads become more than material; they are carriers of layered histories, of labour, love, resilience, and survival. Through stitching, weaving, and mending, Nupur translates the persistence of ordinary life into extraordinary presence, reclaiming craft as a language of protest, tenderness, and memory.

Fragments of stitched text echo domestic wall hangings but unfold stories of broken social structures, resilient bodies, and the fragile tensions between grief and survival. Architecture, landscape, displacement, and personal histories converge in her practice, creating works that heighten emotional connection while inviting reflection on the unseen rhythms that shape daily life.

Nupur’s artistic journey bridges local and global, past and present. Her work has travelled from Tate Modern, London, to Fondazione Elpis, Milan, from the Dhaka Art Summit to Berlin’s performative storytelling spaces. In every thread, every sculptural fold, the exhibition evokes presence, refusal, and a slow insistence on memory, placing intimacy and human connection at the heart of artistic experience.

Unraveling Silence is housed at Quamrul Hassan Exhibition Hall, Bengal Shilpalay, offering viewers a delicate dialogue between texture, space, and the unseen narratives woven into each piece.
