The Magic of “Shunno Abhirup”

What if “zero” isn’t a hollow end, but a breathtaking beginning? This January, the 3D Art Gallery at Artpix Limited transformed into a sanctuary of thought with the exhibition “Shunno Abhirup – When Emptiness Becomes Creation.” Held as a cornerstone of the 24th Dhaka International Film Festival, this showcase challenged us to look at the void and see, instead, a canvas of limitless potential.

Curated with a delicate touch by artist Lutfa Mahmudha, the collection featured ten of Bangladesh’s most visionary creators: Anisuzzaman Anis, Juton Chandra Roy, Lutfa Mahmudha, Mohammad Iqbal, Mohammad Yunus, Ahmed Shamsuddoha, Sanad Biswas, Sanzid Mahmud, Tajuddin Ahmed, and Ziaur Rahman.

Through a mesmerising blend of paintings and sculptures, these artists invited visitors to listen to the “heartbeat of creation” within the silence. Here, emptiness was not treated as an absence, but as a fertile ground where every stroke and form found its life.

Inaugurated by François Chambraud of Alliance Française de Dhaka, the event served as a masterclass in contemporary Bangladeshi art. It was a rare moment where the bustling energy of the film festival met the quiet introspection of the gallery. For those who walked through, “Shunno Abhirup” was a reminder that even from the deepest stillness, beauty can bloom.
