For three decades, the Department of Architecture at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) has shaped architects who continue to influence Bangladesh’s built environment. Celebrating this remarkable journey, the department marks its 30th Anniversary Pearl Celebration with a vibrant two-day festival, “Bridging Generations: The Future We Build,” held on 2–3 July 2026 in collaboration with the Alumni of AUST Architects (AAA). More than 1,500 students, alumni, faculty members, and industry professionals gather on campus, turning the occasion into a celebration of shared memories, creative exchange, and future aspirations.
The campus transforms into a lively platform where learning extends beyond the classroom. A comprehensive exhibition presents outstanding academic projects, professional works, and thesis explorations created over the past three decades, while the “Threads of Time” Design Charrette encourages students and alumni to collaborate on fresh architectural ideas. Memoir sessions and archival photographs reconnect generations, allowing alumni to revisit the spaces where their architectural journeys first began.
The final day features one of the festival’s most anticipated sessions: a thought-provoking lecture programme exploring the future of architectural education. Under the theme “Future Academia: Directions for Architectural Education,” distinguished speakers from Bangladesh and abroad reflect on the changing landscape of design education. Among them, architect and academic Dr Adnan Zillur Morshed presents “The Enduring Power of Hand Drawings in Architecture: From Historical Roots to the Digital and AI Era,” highlighting the timeless value of hand drawing even as digital technologies continue to redefine architectural practice. The session concludes with an engaging panel discussion moderated by Ar. Mahmudul Anwar Riyaad, bringing together diverse perspectives on creativity, technology, and education.
The celebration also includes panel discussions on sustainability, emerging technologies, and climate-responsive design, alongside the launch of a commemorative alumni monograph unveiled by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Md. Ashraful Hoque. A heartfelt tribute honours the department’s founding Head and Dean, Prof. Dr M. A. Muktadir, recognising his enduring contribution to architectural education in Bangladesh.
As the festival concludes with cultural performances by current and former students, the celebration becomes more than an anniversary. It reflects the department’s continuing commitment to nurturing curiosity, critical thinking, and responsible design, while reaffirming AUST’s role in shaping the next generation of architects.
