A Chic Pâtisserie

Having completed three chic and compact outlets of Puro Bakery, Hive Interior ticks all the right boxes when it comes to café design. Following the similar design approach of a French Patisserie style, the Gulshan avenue branch of Puro is a gem that transports you to a quaint little bakery in Paris.

The Hive Interiors team specializes in conceptual developments depending on the brief given by the client. The brief is then rationalized and the output is created accordingly. In the case of Puro Bakery, the client brief was very precise. “The client wanted a French Patisserie style interior which would be timeless, traditional, chic and minimal. So we studied multiple bakeries such as Paul, Roladin, Patisserie Valerie and Laduree to draw inspiration from. We noted how the French bakeries usually use light and warm tones juxtaposed with patterns and wall mouldings.

We tried to keep the essence of the interior as authentic to a French bakery as much as possible”

explains one of the designers of Hive.

Designing a concise bakery of 180 sqft was an amusing experience for Hive as they explored the possibilities to play around with the potential of such a small space. The size itself was the speciality of the project from the perspective of the designer. As the space is located in a busy shopping mall amidst electronic, stationery and toy stores, the lighting and ambience had to be eye-catching to the viewers who passes through it. The designer team played around with lighting by integrating an industrial style pendant light, T5 lights and track lights.

“It is almost delightful to discover a lively bakery in the middle of such a setting. And hence, we paid much attention to the window dressing of Puro. One gets a clear picture of what’s inside at first glance”,

says the designer of Hive.

The colour palette comprises of black, white and beige. Following the preordained design ideology, the tones were kept mute so that the products of the bakery could dominate the interior and attract customers. The bakery design sets an example for the best utilization of limited space and budget. Since there was a budget constraint, the designer team was asked to create a beautiful space within a specific range. The only expensive material they could use were aluminium for the Crittall windows and door. Locally produced tiles were used to make a chequered floor, MDF board with CNC cuts for the shelves and display tables. Hive team is excited to be designing Puro’s biggest café and bakery to date in the coming months.
